The seemingly-obvious-in-retrospect decision in 2002 to enhance audio webcasts for Tufts University athletics – by plugging a video camera into the encoding laptop – started Steve Clay on the path to becoming one of the pioneers in live video production for college athletics webcasting. In the subsequent decade, his company Bullpen Media has produced live video webcasts in 19 different sports for colleges and conferences around New England, as well as across the country for the NCAA (for whom he has produced webcasts in 27 NCAA Championships), with multi-camera production, real-time graphics and instant replay.
Building on his success creating Tufts’ JumboCast, Steve started Bullpen Media in 2006, and its imprints D3Cast (for NCAA Division III college athletics) and NEsports.tv (for amateur events throughout New England). Bullpen Media is a full-service athletics streaming company, providing equipment, staffing, web site integration, and streaming media expertise and services for athletics events across the country. JumboCast and D3Cast have now produced over 30 championships for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), and Bullpen Media serves as the official webcast video production partner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Since 2006, Steve has also produced and directed live multi-camera webcast productions for eleven different sports for NCAA.com, including national championship games in field hockey, softball and women’s ice hockey. In addition, since 2006, Steve has directed and produced a multi-camera live webcast for the Head Of The Charles Regatta. He is an in-demand consultant for schools starting their own streaming projects, as well as for other companies in the athletics webcasting space.
A 1990 graduate of Tufts, Steve was Sports Director of campus radio station WMFO-FM at his alma mater from 1990-2002, and was the play-by-play voice of Tufts sports on radio and webcast for fifteen years. In addition to his production schedule for NCAA.com, Clay has also provided the play-by-play for NCAA Championship events in field hockey, softball, and women's soccer, including five national championship games.
